Dr. Jean Sorensen
English and Philosophy Professor
Bio
Dr. Jean Sorensen joined Grayson College as a faculty member in 1996. Dr. Sorensen began her career in higher education teaching part-time at North Lake College, El Centro College, Tarrant County College-Northeast, and Tarrant County College-Northwest. She taught full time at a four-year university in Pennsylvania, Grove City College. In addition to teaching, Dr. Sorensen worked using her degree in nutrition at Children’s Medical Center of Dallas. She used her rhetorical skills translating data and the testimony of expert witnesses into presentations designed by graphic artists to help attorneys educate before advocating. She also put her marketing and communication skills to work for a division of Coca-Cola Bottling by creating educational and promotional materials. Dr. Sorensen is active in professional organizations for English and philosophy. Locally, she volunteers through the Grayson County Rotary Club. She promotes good health by teaching yoga at the Sherman and Denison Nautilus Clubs. With her diverse experiences and inter-disciplinary educational background, Dr. Sorensen is an educator focused on students learning for a variety of reasons and able to succeed in a changing world. Dr. Sorensen received her bachelor’s degree in nutrition from the Pennsylvania State University. Her master’s in English is from the University of Dallas. She graduated with her doctorate from the University of Dallas’s Institute for Philosophic Studies.
